Discover the Wonders of Birdwatching at Victoria Falls

Giant Kingfisher with crab

I recently had the most incredible birdwatching experience on a Discover Safaris excursion in Victoria Falls. With over 130 species spotted in a single day, it was truly a bird-lover’s dream come true!

Our day started early, as we met up with our expert birdwatching guide, Charles. He was incredibly knowledgeable and shared the latest safari news with us before setting out on our adventure. The anticipation was building as we began exploring the diverse habitats around Victoria Falls.

Pair of Broad-billed Rollers

The first bird sighting of the day was a majestic white-backed night heron, gracefully perched on a tree branch. The vibrant colours and shimmering feathers of Schalow’s Turaco caught my eye next, closely followed by the sleek African Skimmer gliding effortlessly above the water.

As the day continued, our list of sightings grew longer and more impressive. We observed the powerful Dickinson’s kestrel in full hunting mode while grey-headed parrots chattered away overhead. The Collared Palm Thrush serenaded us with its melodious song, and we were fortunate enough to spot an elusive African finfoot navigating through the shallows.

A particular highlight of our trip was watching a Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah flaunt its stunning plumage during mating season. And let’s not forget the quirky Raquet-tailed Roller, elegantly displaying its remarkable tail feathers to its mate.

Each species we encountered offered a unique insight into the breathtaking diversity of birdlife at Victoria Falls. Our day on this birdwatching safari certainly lived up to its reputation as one of the top Victoria Falls activities for nature enthusiasts.

And so, I encourage you all to contact Charles to arrange your own unforgettable bird-watching trip to Victoria Falls. Discover Safaris exceeded my expectations, creating memories that will last a lifetime and igniting my passion for birdwatching like never before.
